Reading Blog #2

From the website Barron's, Abby Schultz wrote an article about a piece of digital art that sold for millions of dollars at an auction. With the article titled, Beeple's 'Human One' Sculpture and NFT Sells for Nearly $29 Million", it focuses on the famous digital artists known as Beeple or Matt Winkelmann. Within this past week, Beeple would auction off his artwork titled, HUMAN ONE, which is a 7 foot 3D video sculpture that combine both digital works with a real life model. The work itself is incased within a metal 4 foot by 4 foot box seen as if it was an exhibit within a museum. The background of the box changes with different sceneries from a multitude of different environments including one being from mars. The main attraction would come from the human figure seen in a walking formation, wearing an all silver outfit with bright LEDs on its right leg, right hand, and backpack. Lastly, the figure would sport an astronaut helmet. The highlight of the story would come from the auction that was held for this piece. Through the Christie's auction, many bidder from across world including those in New York and Hong Kong would offer millions for this piece. While the estimate was considered to only be for $15 million, in just over 3 minutes; the art piece would be sold for over $25 million from an online bidder in Switzerland. Previous to this, Beeple would previously sell another piece of art for $69 million titled Everydays: The First 5000 Days.
